1. How early do I have to check-in?
Actual check-in at the gate begins 60 minutes prior to your scheduled flight departure. If you have not checked in 30 minutes before flight time your seat could be given to a standby passenger. Flights are frequently sold out, and quite often there are at least several standby passengers who would be happy to take your seat if you’re late.(Note: The terminal opens at 5:00 am)

2. How many bags can I bring?
You are usually allowed 2 checked bags and 1 carry-on bag, which can measure up to 10" H x 17" W x 24" L, plus one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase or laptop computer. Airlines are becoming stricter in enforcing regulations limiting the size of carry-on luggage, and there is a maximum weight of 50 lbs. per checked bag. If the flight is weight limited, bags are bumped before passengers. For additional baggage information go to horizonair.com.

3. How can I find out if the flight is on schedule or will be canceled by weather?
If the weather is marginal the flight may not be canceled until scheduled departure or later. It is necessary to present yourself at the ticket counter to preserve your ticket rights. Horizon’s toll free information number (1-800 547-9308) will report flight cancellations and has "real time" information on the status of flights at the smaller airports it serves.
During winter months KPQ radio (AM 560) provides regular updates on the status of Horizon Airlines arrivals and departures during its morning newscasts.

4. Modern airplanes land in the fog in Seattle, why not in Wenatchee?
Pangborn Memorial Airport is located in a valley, surrounded by mountains. This topography requires greater safety margins. Like virtually all smaller airports, Pangborn does not have the sophisticated (and expensive) equipment needed for aircraft to make safe landings when visibility is extremely limited. Passenger safety is always of the utmost importance, and that safety is not compromised when weather limits visibility.

5. Why can't I fly directly to Spokane or Portland?
Prior to 1979 the now defunct Civil Aeronautics Board strictly regulated the commercial airlines. Often airlines were required to fly unprofitable routes, which meant passing the cost of unprofitable service along to the customer. After deregulation, the free marketplace in many smaller communities could no longer support scheduled air service to locations formerly served in a regulated environment. Currently, the local marketplace can only sustain profitable service to Seattle. If and when the airlines are convinced that a route will be profitable, it is highly likely that they will begin service.

6. If I have trouble getting back on time will my car be towed?
Pangborn staff operates the parking lot on an honor system. Vehicle license numbers are recorded and entered into a computer. If you stay beyond your paid time, a violation envelope will be placed on your car so you can pay when you get back. The cost for a violation is $5.00 per day for each day not paid in advance. It is important that all parking be prepaid. Records of non-payers are kept, and repeat violators may have their car immobilized and be subject to a $50 service fee, in addition to parking violation fees.

7. What happens to the tax money added to my ticket?
Federal excise tax goes into the aviation trust fund that is used to pay a significant portion of the costs of our national air transportation system. A large portion of these funds are provided to local airport authorities, who in turn use them to pay for things like runways, land, lights, instruments, and parking lots. Without these funds, local governments would have to pay for airport improvements with local financial resources.
Like most airports, we also collect a Passenger Facility Charge ($4.50 at Pangborn). This is a user fee that can only be used by the airport to fund the local share of FAA grant projects (as mentioned above).

8. How can I get answers to my own questions relating to the airport or flying?
The airport office in the terminal can answer most questions or direct you to another source. The office is staffed from 8-5 weekdays. Our telephone number is 884-2494 Extension 6. If there is no answer during office hours, please leave a message and we’ll promptly return your call.
Horizon Air can land if the ceiling is 300' above the ground. If ASOS reports a ceiling of less than 300' overcast, the plane cannot land.
